Penny Johnson

Penny Johnson is a Director and HR Manager at Johnsons Group, where she shapes the culture, people practices, and internal communications that underpin the company's growth. With a career spanning more than four decades of leadership across two sectors, she brings strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and hands-on experience to everything she does.

Before joining Johnsons Group, Penny spent close to thirty years in the education sector, leading organisational change, building high-performing teams, and championing values-led leadership across North Yorkshire and County Durham. It was a career that laid the groundwork for everything that has followed.

The move into construction came when Penny joined her son, Henry, in growing the business — a bold step that she embraced with characteristic determination. She has since established robust HR frameworks, cultivated a workplace culture where people feel valued, and helped build the internal foundations that allow Johnsons Group to operate with professionalism and purpose.

As a Director, Penny also contributes to the company's strategic direction and has played an active role in its marketing and communications — helping to articulate what makes Johnsons Group distinctive not just in the quality of its work, but in how it treats its people and clients.

Family is central to Penny's story. She and her husband Ray — also a Director — share the values that run through the heart of Johnsons Group.

Outside of work, Penny enjoys running and painting with watercolours. Above all, she is driven by a deep belief in people and their capacity to grow when properly supported.
